• 1.6L EcoBoost cylinder head overheating and cracking — the defining defect of this engine, where localised head overheating cracks the head and leaks oil onto hot exhaust components. Ford’s remedies added a cylinder head shield, a revised degas bottle and thermostat, a coolant level sensor and new engine calibrations.
