About the 2011–2014 Edge

2011 was the year the first-generation Edge was reworked rather than replaced. The CD3 underpinnings carried over, but the nose, the interior and the electrical architecture were new — this is the Edge that introduced MyFord Touch, and the Sport that arrived alongside it brought the 3.7L Duratec. A year later the 2.0L EcoBoost joined the two V6s, the first four-cylinder ever fitted to an Edge, and from that point the range held steady to the end of the generation. Everything changed for 2015, when the Edge moved onto the CD4 platform — which is exactly where this manual stops.

Common issues this manual helps you tackle

• Cracked fuel line pulse damper — recalled twice, first as NHTSA 12V-438 on the 2.0L EcoBoost and then more widely as 14V-002, where an improperly made damper housing cracks and weeps fuel under pressure with an obvious smell and a fire risk. Section 310-01 Fuel Tank and Lines carries the line and damper; the fuel charging and controls sections carry the depressurisation and pressure-test procedures you need before touching either.
• Front halfshaft circlip disengagement — NHTSA 14V-393 covers 2012–2014 cars whose halfshaft retention circlip was never properly seated, letting the shaft work outward and disengage: drive vanishes, and a car parked on a slope can roll. Section 205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts documents the shafts, the circlip and the correct seating and installation sequence.
• Body control module internal short — two 2011 recalls, 10V-659 and the 11V-128 follow-up issued after the first diagnostic software failed to identify every defective unit, traced overheating and unattended fires to a short inside the BCM. • Fuel pump failure and stalling — NHTSA 15V-005 covers 2014 cars with improperly nickel-plated fuel pump components, where the pump can fail and stall the vehicle without warning. Section 310-01 documents the pump and sender assembly, tank removal, and the fuel pressure specification to test against before condemning the pump.
• Power transfer unit wear on all-wheel drive — the PTU carries no published fluid service interval and is one of the longest-running complaints on this platform, usually announcing itself somewhere near 90,000 miles as brown fluid at the axle seal, then noise and heat. Section 308-07B is a dedicated Transfer Case – Power Transfer Unit chapter: seals, fluid fill, removal and installation, with section 308-07A covering the four-wheel-drive system around it.
• MyFord Touch freezing and rebooting — the system launched on this Edge and became the subject of a class-action settlement over blank screens, freezes and slow or failed reboots. Section 415-00 Information and Entertainment Systems covers the APIM and display, section 418-00 the network they communicate over, and section 418-01 module configuration — worth reading before replacing a module that only needs configuring.

Frequently asked questions

Are wiring diagrams included?
Yes. They are not gathered into a separate volume — they sit inside the electrical sections themselves, so the diagram for a circuit is next to the diagnosis and the removal procedure for the component on it. The module network, exterior and interior lighting, charging, anti-theft, instrumentation and restraint sections all carry them.

Will this fit a 2015 Edge?
No, and it is worth being clear about it. The 2015 Edge is a different vehicle: a new CD4 platform, a new body and a revised engine range. Nothing in this manual is written for it, and it needs the 2015–2018 manual instead. This one ends with the 2014 model year.

Is the Lincoln MKX really covered?
Yes. Ford developed the Edge and MKX as one programme and published one workshop manual for both, so MKX-specific procedures, specifications and diagrams appear right through the text. You are buying the Edge manual; the MKX coverage comes with it rather than being an afterthought.

Why are there two books?
Because Ford published one workshop manual for the 2011 model year and a second from 2012 onward. The powertrain and platform did not change after that second book was issued, so it carries the range through to the end of the generation. Both are included, complete, and between them they are the full factory record for these four years.

Does it cover the 2.0L EcoBoost?
Yes. Section 303-01C is the 2.0L GTDI engine, with its own fuel charging and controls, its own ignition section and a dedicated turbocharger section behind it.
